At roughly the size of a U.S. dime, the Denmark 10 Kroner Mermaid makes for an exquisite piece of jewelry.  It is a remarkably beautiful and rare coin, with only 920,000 struck during just six years of production.  Referrred to as a 'Mermaid' as the image of the porpoise at the feet of Lady Liberty's figure resembles that of the mythical figure at a glance.  It shouldn’t be surprising that these coins would come to be known as ‘Mermaids’, as it was also the Danish author Hans Christian Anderson who originally penned the fairy tale ‘The Little Mermaid’ in 1837, from which the Disney movie was adapted. It is also the subject of the country’s most visited tourist attraction, a bronze statue known by the same name.  Denmark ‘Mermaids’ are a consensus favorite amongst historic gold coin owners and are widely considered to be one of the most uniquely beautiful coins ever produced.
