Featuring the four prominent gold coins in circulation in the early 1900's, the U.S. St. Gaudens & Indians Four-Coin Type Set is an excellent representation of US monetary history. Mint State 62 is the most affordable grade/option for an ecapsulated St. Gaudens/Indian type set, yet still provides the buyer an exceptional state of preservation and visual appeal. All coins graded by PCGS and/or NGC.
The US $10 Indian and $20 St. Gaudens coins were designed by famed sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens under the direction of Theodore Roosevelt, who, in 1907, sought to 'beautify American coinage'. The $5 and $2.5 Indian coins were designed by Bella Pratt, who after St. Gaudens death in 1907, stepped in to complete the series. Big gaps exist in the production of the $2.5, $5, and $10 gold pieces, as the onset of World War I saw a significant decline in gold circulation and the need for additional coinage.
